Acupuncture Body Points

Acupuncture body points are the points at which the acupuncture needles are inserted to release the flow of energy throughout the body. Each body point relates to a different area of treatment.

acupuncture body points There are meridians throughout the body which allow energy to flow; when the meridians are blocked or disrupted, energy cannot flow, creating pain or other problems.

Acupuncture points are the points where the meridians are close to the skin and can be accessed by the needles, releasing the flow of energy.

Each point is related to a different body part, but generally not the part where the point is located. For example, there are many points in the ear, but they don't necessarily treat ear problems. A headache may be treated by inserting a needle in the arm or in the webbed part of the hand between the thumb and forefinger. The needle is inserted into the acupuncture body point that corresponds to the location of the pain, not directly into the area where the pain is felt.

Using the proper body points, and acupuncturist can relieve headaches, sinus problems, neck and back pain, arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, and indigestion. This technique is also effective on muscle aches and tension due to stress or anxiety, and can help you get to sleep or fight insomnia.

An acupuncturist has meridian maps (similar to the photo, above) that direct him or her to the proper location to insert the needles. Your acupuncturist can show you exactly where the needles will be inserted before your treatment begins.
