The Seven Chakras

The Seven Chakras represent the energy centers of the human body. The chakras are associated with physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Energy must flow freely through the chakras for optimal health; when the chakras are blocked, you can experience low mood or illness. Chakra balancing is essential to optimal health.

While the chakras cannot be seen, they are often depicted as lotus shapes, each in a different color.

The 7 chakras are:

• The root chakra (red) - located at the base of the spine, the root is associated with back pain, depression, and survival or security.

• The sacral chakra (orange) - located in the lower abdomen, it is associated with urinary or pelvic problems, creativity, and control of emotions.

• The solar plexus chakra (yellow) - located in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus is associated with stomach problems, self esteem, and self-love or acceptance.

• The heart chakra (green) - located in the chest, the heart chakra is associated with heart and lung problems; love, anger, and jealousy; forgiveness and compassion.

• The throat chakra (blue) - located in the neck, it is associated with throat and thyroid problems, confession and truthfulness, self-expression and decision-making.

• The third-eye chakra (indigo) - located in the center of the forehead, it is associated with understanding, strokes and brain tumors, and judgement or confusion.

• The crown chakra (violet) - located at the top of the head, the crown is associated with spirituality, chronic exhaustion and sensitivity to light, and inspiration and devotion.

Balancing the chakras means that all are open and functioning properly; if one or more are blocked, it puts a strain on the others and the chakras are unbalanced. Similarly, aligning the chakras is necessary for the energy to flow between them. Reiki is a technique that draws energy into the body through the chakras to maintain physical and spiritual health.
